The General Dermatology Cases course is divided into two units, each featuring five detailed case studies that address a variety of dermatological conditions.

Unit 1: Cases 1-5
This unit focuses on the first five dermatological cases:
Case 1: A 32-year-old female with periorificial dermatitis. The case discusses symptoms, triggers, and treatment options including topical and oral antibiotics.
Case 2: A five-month-old infant with suspected scabies, highlighting the diagnostic challenges in pediatric cases and the treatment protocol using permethrin.
Case 3: A four-year-old male with tinea capitis and Kerion, exploring the use of antifungal therapies like griseofulvin and terbinafine.
Case 4: A 19-year-old male with nodulocystic acne, discussing the management with oral isotretinoin and the importance of patient education.
Case 5: A 65-year-old female with subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, detailing diagnosis through clinical and autoimmune markers​.

Unit 2: Cases 6-10
This unit covers the remaining five cases:
Case 6: A 25-year-old male with alopecia areata, emphasising the autoimmune associations and management options such as corticosteroids and minoxidil.
Case 7: A 72-year-old male with small vessel vasculitis, discussing diagnosis, investigations, and treatment strategies for vasculitic conditions.
Case 8: A 47-year-old male with seborrheic dermatitis, focusing on chronic management using antifungal treatments and corticosteroids.
Case 9: An 82-year-old male with bullous pemphigoid, outlining diagnostic steps and management with systemic steroids and immunosuppressants.
Case 10: A 32-year-old male with pyoderma gangrenosum, discussing treatment approaches including corticosteroids and steroid-sparing agents​(U2 - Cases 6-10_Caption…).

This course offers valuable insights into managing general dermatological cases with evidence-based strategies, helping medical professionals enhance their diagnostic and treatment skills in dermatology.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Dr Christopher Ross

This course is presented by Dr Christopher Ross: BSc (BiomedSc)(Hons) BMBS FACD.

Chris is a dermatologist who completed a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Siceince with Honours at Adelaide University in 2004, before completing his Bachelor or Medicine, Bachelor or Sugery at Flinders University in 2008. His dermatology specialist training was conducted at Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and Royal Adelaide Hospital; he was awarded Fellowship of Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD) in 2016. Chris has a keen interest in rural dermatology, providing outreach services to Darwin and rural South Australia. He also holds the position of Visiting Medical Specialist at Flinders Medical Centre, providing care and teaching Dermatology registrars. He has an interest in all general dermatology including acne, eczema, psoriasis and hair loss.
