This course consists of one comprehensive unit:

The unit covers the dermoscopic evaluation of various facial lesions, with a specific focus on flat pigmented lesions, pigmented mucosal lesions, non-pigmented neoplastic lesions, and non-neoplastic lesions. Participants will learn to differentiate between common facial conditions such as lentigo maligna, solar lentigo, and pigmented actinic keratosis using dermoscopy. The unit also introduces key dermoscopic patterns like circles, reticular patterns, and structureless areas, and discusses the challenges in diagnosing similar-looking lesions. Additional focus is given to recognising inflammatory conditions like lupus and granulomatous diseases.

By the end of this course, participants will have enhanced skills in identifying and diagnosing a range of facial lesions using dermoscopy, improving their clinical practice in dermatology.

  1. Detect and diagnose dermoscopic structures for naevi or melanoma.
  2. Outline basic patterns of pigmented lesions on facial skin.
  3. Detect clues and evaluate melanoma in situ, solar lentigo, lichen planus-like keratosis, and pigmented actinic keratosis.
