- Types of Hair Loss: Androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, anagen hair loss, inflammatory skin diseases, and infections.
- Diagnosis: Learn diagnostic techniques including hair pull tests, dermoscopy, and scalp biopsies.
- Management: Understand treatment options such as minoxidil, finasteride, ketoconazole shampoo, and advanced therapies like PRP and hair transplantation. Special attention is given to counselling patients on the long-term commitment required for effective treatment.

Unit 2: Genital Inflammatory Dermatoses
Delve into the diagnosis and management of inflammatory skin conditions affecting the genital area, including:
- Conditions Covered: Psoriasis, eczema, balanitis (including Zoon’s balanitis), lichen sclerosus, and lichen planus.
- Clinical Features: Learn to identify conditions through symptoms like erythematous plaques, scaling, and specific patterns like Wickham striae.
- Treatment Protocols: Gain insights into effective treatments, such as topical steroids, calcineurin inhibitors, and systemic therapies, while considering the unique sensitivity of the genital area. Surgical options for severe cases are also discussed.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Dr Christopher Ross

This course is presented by Dr Christopher Ross: BSc (BiomedSc)(Hons) BMBS FACD.

Chris is a dermatologist who completed a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Siceince with Honours at Adelaide University in 2004, before completing his Bachelor or Medicine, Bachelor or Sugery at Flinders University in 2008. His dermatology specialist training was conducted at Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and Royal Adelaide Hospital; he was awarded Fellowship of Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD) in 2016. Chris has a keen interest in rural dermatology, providing outreach services to Darwin and rural South Australia. He also holds the position of Visiting Medical Specialist at Flinders Medical Centre, providing care and teaching Dermatology registrars. He has an interest in all general dermatology including acne, eczema, psoriasis and hair loss.
