Case Management: Menopause and Post Menopause

Case Management: Menopause and Post Menopause equips General Practitioners with the practical skills to initiate, review and adjust menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) and related treatments in postmenopausal women. Through eight evidence-based case studies, participants explore MHT initiation, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, long-term therapy review, and management in women with complicating factors — including venous thromboembolism, hormone-sensitive breast cancer, surgical menopause, low libido, and osteoporosis. The course builds clinical confidence in individualised risk-benefit assessment, safe prescribing of hormonal and non-hormonal therapies, and long-term monitoring of postmenopausal women.

EXPERT INSTRUCTOR

Postmenopausal women often present with persistent or new symptoms, questions about long-term MHT safety, or complicating medical histories that require individualised, evidence-based decision-making. This course provides General Practitioners with a practical framework for initiating and reviewing MHT, managing genitourinary and sexual symptoms, and coordinating care in women with additional risk factors or comorbidities.

Through eight interactive case studies, participants explore menopause and post-menopause management in general practice, including:

  1. Initiating MHT for classic vasomotor symptoms after natural menopause
  2. Managing genitourinary syndrome of menopause in a woman in her 60s
  3. Assessing new treatment options for persistent symptoms later in post-menopause
  4. Managing vasomotor symptoms in a woman with a previous provoked VTE
  5. Managing menopausal symptoms after hormone-sensitive breast cancer and aromatase inhibitor therapy
  6. Initiating hormone therapy after surgical menopause and endometriosis
  7. Assessing low libido, dyspareunia and the role of testosterone therapy
  8. Reviewing long-term MHT, switching preparations, and managing coexisting osteoporosis

Learners will develop practical skills in individualised risk-benefit assessment, safe prescribing and switching of hormonal and non-hormonal therapies, long-term MHT review, and coordinated, patient-centred care for postmenopausal women.
