Case Management: Perimenopause

Case Management: Perimenopause equips General Practitioners with the practical skills to recognise, assess and manage perimenopause across a wide range of real-world presentations. Through eight evidence-based case studies, participants explore diagnostic uncertainty, menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) decision-making, contraception, and symptom management in women with complex risk factors — including venous thromboembolism, migraine with aura, previous breast cancer, and endometrial ablation. The course builds clinical confidence in differential diagnosis, individualised risk assessment, safe prescribing of hormonal and non-hormonal therapies, and shared decision-making in perimenopausal care.

EXPERT INSTRUCTOR

Perimenopause presents with diverse and often overlapping symptoms, and many women are dismissed or misdiagnosed due to normal hormone levels, atypical presentations or complex medical histories. This course provides General Practitioners with an evidence-based framework for recognising perimenopause, excluding alternative causes, and individualising management according to each patient's risk profile.

Through eight interactive case studies, participants explore perimenopause assessment and management in general practice, including:

  1. Diagnosing early perimenopause in a woman with regular cycles and normal FSH/LH
  2. Balancing MHT decision-making in a woman with a previous provoked deep vein thrombosis
  3. Managing contraception alongside symptom control during the menopause transition
  4. Assessing menopausal status and treatment options after endometrial ablation
  5. Evaluating brain fog, fatigue and mood changes, and determining the role of MHT
  6. Selecting safe MHT options for a woman with migraine with aura
  7. Managing perimenopausal symptoms following previous breast cancer using non-hormonal options
  8. Addressing reduced libido and dyspareunia in perimenopausal women

Learners will develop practical skills in differential diagnosis, individualised risk stratification, safe prescribing of hormonal and non-hormonal therapies, and shared decision-making to optimise patient-centred perimenopause care.
