The Dermoscopy for Mucosal Lesions course provides a comprehensive introduction to mucoscopy, the dermoscopic examination of mucosal surfaces. This one-unit program emphasises diagnostic precision and the identification of critical patterns in mucosal lesions.

The course focuses on the principles, challenges, and diagnostic value of mucoscopy for evaluating lesions in various mucosal regions, including the oral cavity, genital areas, and lips.
Key topics include:
- Basics of Mucoscopy
- Introduction to mucoscopy as a specialised field of dermoscopy.
- Histological foundations of mucosal tissue and their clinical implications.
- Tools and techniques for examining mucosal surfaces, including polarised and non-polarised light.
- Differentiating Benign and Malignant Lesions
- Dermoscopic patterns of benign lesions, such as melanocytic nevi, hemangiomas, and lichen planus.
- Features of malignant mucosal lesions, including melanomas and squamous cell carcinoma.
- Common diagnostic clues: structureless patterns, colour variations (blue, grey, and white), and vascular arrangements.
- Case Studies and Practical Insights
- Real-world examples of benign and malignant lesions in mucoscopy.
- Diagnostic strategies to reduce unnecessary biopsies while ensuring early detection of malignancies.
- Tips for managing patient discomfort and infection control during mucoscopy.
Participants will gain practical skills for integrating mucoscopy into routine clinical examinations, ensuring the early identification and appropriate management of mucosal lesions.

By the end of the course, participants will have a robust understanding of mucoscopy, enabling them to confidently evaluate and manage mucosal lesions with precision and care. This program is an essential resource for dermatologists and primary care providers aiming to expand their expertise in dermoscopic diagnostics.

  1. Evaluate the dermoscopic patterns of mucosal lesions.
  2. Distinguish between benign and malignant mucosal lesions using a dermoscope.
