The Male Anatomy and Clinical Problems 1 course is divided into five units, each focusing on specific clinical challenges and the underlying anatomical structures.

Unit 1: Clinical Problems – Urethra
This unit explores the anatomy of the male urethra and its clinical problems, including obstruction, incontinence, and referred pain. Participants will learn about urethral anatomy from the internal sphincter to the external orifice, as well as common issues such as urethral strictures, trauma, and the role of catheterisation in urethral management.

Unit 2: Clinical Problems – Prostate
This unit covers the prostate gland, discussing benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostate cancer, and the potential spread of malignancy through the venous system. It also examines the impact of prostate surgery, including nerve-sparing techniques and the risks of referred pain, with an emphasis on the anatomy of the prostate zones.

Unit 3: Clinical Problems – Penis
Focusing on the anatomy and clinical conditions affecting the penis, this unit discusses issues such as phimosis, paraphimosis, circumcision, and Peyronie’s disease. Participants will understand the importance of the prepuce, the anatomical layers of the penis, and the functional implications of these structures.

Unit 4: Clinical Problems – Erectile Tissue
This unit delves into the anatomy and function of erectile tissue, covering conditions such as erectile dysfunction and priapism. Participants will explore the vascular supply of the penis, the mechanism of erection, and the reflex pathways involved in achieving and maintaining an erection. The unit also includes information on penile nerve blocks.

Unit 5: Clinical Problems – Ejaculatory Pathway
The final unit addresses ejaculatory dysfunction and the anatomy of the ejaculatory pathway. It explains the role of the deferent ducts, seminal vesicles, and ejaculatory ducts in the process of ejaculation. The unit also covers common disorders such as premature ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, and the impact of surgeries like TURP.

This course equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge to diagnose and manage male reproductive health issues, combining anatomical expertise with clinical practice to improve patient outcomes.
