EXPERT INSTRUCTOR

The Pregnancy: Complete Nutrition Guide for Fertility, Pregnancy, and Lactation course is structured into two detailed units, presented by Dr. Kate Morgan, an expert in dietetics and maternal health. The course provides an in-depth look at the vital role of nutrition during various stages, from conception to lactation.

Unit 1: Fertility and Pregnancy Nutrition This unit begins with an exploration of the critical role of nutrition in optimising fertility. Through the case study of Ms. M, a 34-year-old woman aiming to improve her fertility, participants will learn about key nutrients such as folic acid, iodine, and iron that support conception. The unit discusses lifestyle choices, including food components to avoid, and how diet can improve fertility outcomes. Moving into pregnancy, the focus shifts to managing nutrition for optimal maternal and foetal health, emphasising key nutrients like iron and the dietary adjustments needed to prevent pregnancy complications.

Unit 2: Lactation and Postpartum Nutrition The second unit delves into the nutritional needs of breastfeeding women, covering the increased energy and nutrient requirements to support milk production. Participants will learn about the importance of supplements like iodine during lactation and practical ways to ensure a healthy diet while managing postpartum demands. This unit also addresses common concerns around breast milk adequacy, colic, and the role of galactogenic foods. Finally, practical guidance on balancing nutrition with busy postpartum life is provided, including tips for convenient, nutrient-dense food choices.

This course offers a well-rounded foundation in maternal nutrition, giving healthcare professionals the tools to provide expert nutritional advice to women at every stage of pregnancy and lactation.
