"Pregnancy Complications – Advanced Part 2" provides an advanced understanding of critical pregnancy-related challenges. The course is divided into four detailed units:

Unit 1: Infections in Pregnancy
Explore the complexities of immune responses during pregnancy and learn to manage antenatally-tested infections such as HIV, hepatitis B/C, syphilis, and chlamydia. The unit also covers viral immunity (e.g., rubella and varicella), and emerging topics like COVID-19. The focus is on clinical management, maternal-foetal implications, and strategies to prevent vertical transmission.

Unit 2: Antepartum Haemorrhage (APH)
Delve into the causes and clinical management of bleeding after 20 weeks gestation. Topics include placenta previa, placental abruption, and abnormal placentation. Gain skills in rapid assessment, stabilisation, and interventions critical for maternal and foetal safety in emergencies.

Unit 3: Preterm Labor (PTL)
Learn the risk factors, prevention, and management of labor before 37 weeks. This unit emphasises screening techniques, including cervical length assessment and foetal fibronectin testing, and interventions such as corticosteroids, magnesium sulfate, and tocolysis. It addresses the multifaceted challenges of PTL, including neurodevelopmental risks and neonatal morbidity.

Unit 4: Vaginal and Perineal Tears with Episiotomies
Understand the classifications, risk factors, and management of perineal trauma during childbirth. This unit explores episiotomy techniques, tear-associated morbidity, and rehabilitation approaches to prevent long-term complications like anal incontinence and dyspareunia.

Through comprehensive modules, case studies, and self-paced assessments, participants will develop the confidence to address these advanced topics with precision and care.

  1. Recognise the clinical presentations and risks of a range of potential complications in pregnancy including: infections in pregnancy, pre-term labour and antepartum haemorrhage.
