This course is divided into two comprehensive units:

Unit 1: Theory and Principles of Rhomboid Flaps
In this unit, participants are introduced to the theoretical fundamentals of rhomboid flaps. The course covers key concepts such as the reconstructive ladder, flap blood supply, and principles of skin tension management. Participants will learn about the planning process, the importance of undermining tissue properly, and techniques to avoid complications like flap necrosis, excessive tension, and infection.

Unit 2: Rhomboid Flap Design – Traditional and Modified
This unit focuses on the design and execution of traditional and modified rhomboid flaps. Participants will explore the geometric structure of the rhomboid flap, learn to account for skin tension lines, and practice suture placements to achieve the best cosmetic and functional outcomes. This unit also introduces modified techniques for larger defects, minimising scarring, and handling complex cases.

By the end of this course, healthcare professionals will have the knowledge and skills to confidently perform rhomboid flaps in various clinical scenarios, improving patient care and surgical results.

  1. Plan dog ear repairs safely for use in clinical settings.
  2. Evaluate aspects of surgical excisions including tailoring incisions to patient surgical anatomy and skin lines.
  3. Plan surgical procedures including various suturing techniques, elliptical excisions, rotation flaps, rhomboidal flaps, advancement flaps and full thickness grafts.
  4. Judge when to refer patients to others.

All degree qualified medical practitioners.
