EXPERT INSTRUCTOR

The Major Phytocannabinoids: THC and CBD is an in-depth course designed to equip healthcare professionals with the scientific understanding and practical knowledge necessary for the clinical use of medicinal cannabis. Led by Associate Professor Jonathan Arnold, a leading authority on cannabinoid therapeutics, this course covers essential aspects of THC and CBD, their pharmacology, and clinical applications.

This unit provides a comprehensive overview of the two key phytocannabinoids, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Topics covered include:

Chemical Structures and Mechanisms of Action: Explore how subtle differences in molecular structures lead to dramatically different pharmacological effects, from the psychoactive properties of THC to the non-intoxicating profile of CBD.
Therapeutic Applications: Delve into the evidence supporting the use of these cannabinoids for managing chronic pain, epilepsy, anxiety, spasticity in multiple sclerosis, and other conditions.

Safety and Side Effects: Learn about the distinct safety considerations of THC and CBD, including dosing strategies, adverse effects, and contraindications.
Clinical Frameworks: Understand the regulatory pathways, product categories, and dosing approaches for medicinal cannabis in clinical practice.

Emerging Research: Explore new findings on CBD’s anti-inflammatory, antipsychotic, and anxiolytic properties, as well as THC’s role in pain modulation and spasticity.

This course is a valuable resource for professionals aiming to enhance their knowledge of medicinal cannabis, ensuring safe and informed patient care.
